Our Calling
God calls his people to give him glory and in fact to "Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples" (Psalm 96:3). The call to missions is ultimately a call to give God glory by making disciples of all nations so that they will worship him. We hear this call throughout the Bible, beginning with God's promise to Abram that "all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you" (Genesis 12:3). In the Old Testament, God called prophets such as Jonah to preach to Gentile peoples. In Isaiah 49:6 we are given insight into God's plans concerning the Messiah: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth."
The age of evangelism was established when Jesus commissioned his disciples with these words in Matthew 28:19-20: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." Jesus instructs his disciples that they "will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). The book of Acts and the Epistles record the missions activity that results from Jesus' commands, and from God's special call to Paul to be a missionary to the nations: "This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel" (Acts 9:15).
God has revealed what the ultimate result of missions will be in Revelation 5:9-10: "...with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."
Our Missions Committee
"The Missions Committee exists to participate in the work of Christ by being a bridge between the congregation and every tribe, tongue, people, and nation."
The Purpose & Goals of Grace Fallbrook are intimately tied to missions, and therefore the Missions Committee's Purpose Statement above flows directly from the church's Purpose Statement.
To achieve our purpose of being a bridge, the committee's activities focus on educating the congregation about missions and the missionaries we support, providing financial and prayer support for our missionaries, and seeking out opportunities for the congregation to be involved in missions both locally and through short-term opportunities. If you have an idea to share with the Missions Committee, or are interested in joining the committee, please speak to Bruce Summers or any other committee member.
In June 2005, a short-term missions team from Grace Fallbrook will be traveling to Belize. Please check the website after June for a photo slideshow of the trip!
Our Missionaries
Our missionaries are as close as 30 minutes away and as far as half a world away as we seek to reach all the corners of the earth with the gospel. Our current missionaries include:
* Juan & Martha Arjona (Mission to North America) - Planting a Hispanic PCA church in Escondido, CA.
* Lloyd & Eda Kim (Mission to the World) - Theological education & coordinating medical missions for Asia in the Philippines.
* David & Eowyn Stoddard (Mission to the World) - Church planting in the former East Berlin, Germany.
* "A family" (Mission to the World) - Leadership training for church planting in West Africa.
* "A family" (Wycliffe) - Bible translation in Indonesia.
"A Family" = Missionary families whose names we
do not release for their security.
We eagerly desire to increase our capacity and add many more missionaries to this list, and to even send long-term missionaries from our own congregation!
